Danuta Hübner, European Commissioner for Regional Policy
On Thursday 23 June the European Commissioner for Regional Policy, Danuta Hübner, spoke at a Forum for European Women ("FEW") event in Brussels.
Commissioner Hübner spoke about the challenges facing the more deprived regions within the EU.
She talked about her frequent visits to different parts of the EU and her support of local initiatives to encourage European integration. These initiatives are given particular importance by the Commission in the light of recent failed attempts to secure sufficient support for an EU constitution. Commissioner Hübner also spoke about her previous experience in Poland, both as an academic and politician.

Commissioner Hübner has the distinction of being the first European Commissioner appointed by Poland. She gave us a very interesting relative newcomer's perspective on the day-to-day workings of the college of Commissioners.
The talk was attended by over 60 women representing a wide range of interests in Brussels and was followed by an opportunity to network and discuss issues with the Commissioner.
