Dr Martine Piccart, a medical oncologist, gave a short talk about er career. Dr Piccart co-founded the Brussels-based Breast International Group ("BIG") in 1996: this is an international non-profit organisation that acts as a communications network for the multitude of national organisations carrying out breast cancer research. Its aim is primarily to facilitate the exchange of helpful information and reduce the wasteful duplication of research efforts in this area. Further information about BIG can be found on its website.
Dr Piccart was a real inspiration to all FEW members who attended, as she explained both her personal and professional reasons for pursuing her interest in medical oncology. A lively debate followed Dr Piccart's talk.
