On 6 June 2002 Anne Anderson, the Irish Permanent Representative to the European Union, gave a short talk on her diplomatic career.
Anne is the first female ambassador to the European Union and talked about her experiences in that role: the time Anne has spent in Brussels has already covered important events in Ireland's membership of the European Union, such as the initial "no" vote in the Irish referendum on the Nice Treaty. Anne also told FEW members about her previous diplomatic career: she started her first overseas posting when she was 24 and before moving to Brussels for her current position represented her country as Ireland's ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva.
Anne's talk was followed by a buffet lunch and an opportunity for FEW members to talk with Anne and each other. The event was very successful, with over 80 women attending.
