Peninah Thomson, a senior executive coach and director of The Change Partnership, based in London, talked about her recent experiences working with CEOs of FTSE 100 companies, and the ways in which women are overcoming the barriers to reaching the highest levels in organisations.
As an executive coach, Peninah supports senior executives, most of whom are men, in their professional roles, acting as a sounding board and helping them to develop their abilities.
She is also involved in the FTSE 100 Cross-Company Mentoring Programme. A couple of years ago, she organised a consortium with FTSE 100 chairmen and chief executives. Each chairman/chief executive agreed to provide mentoring to another company's female nominee and the consortium became known as Women Directors on Board. This programme is now up and running with 22 chairmen of FTSE 100 companies personally involved, and many chairmen in other European countries have shown a strong interest.
